Blood types and coronavirus

Celestial scientists conducted research on residents of the city Wuhan, in which the first case of infection with a new strain of coronavirus was recorded. At the first stage, specialists determined the average percentage ratio of residents by blood groups. To do this, they selected 3694 people. It turned out that in Wuhan 34% of people had group I, 32% - II, 25% - III and 9% - IV.

As Just recommends
Why the medicine does not work The key to successful treatment is, of course, following all the doctor's recommendations and informing him of all significant changes during therapy. However, a specialist can talk about the schedule and duration of the drug as much as desired, but most patients still violate these rules. Read more

On The second stage of the study, scientists took blood samples of already infected patients at the local hospital, including the dead. It turned out that 26% had group I, 38% - II, 26% - III, 10% - IV. Approximately a similar percentage showed a study of infected patients from another hospital. Gender and age did not matter.

The results obtained allowed Chinese researchers to conclude that people with blood group II are most at risk of contracting COVID-19. Specialists advise them to approach the observance of quarantine measures more responsibly than others.

Opinions of other scientists

Of course, the results of a study by Chinese scientists were criticized by experts from other countries. So, Russian hematologists noted that such experiments are, rather, of a popular scientific nature. And unconditionally trust their results is not worth it.

Experts recognize that the blood group is not just a set of red blood cells, platelets and white blood cells, but also certain receptors, enzymes. And in some situations, viruses can be highly sensitive to the presence or absence of certain components. Scientists from the British University of Bath 10 years ago stated that the blood group affects the body's ability to suppress the spread of viruses within itself.

At the same time, scientists note that Chinese experts involved few people in the study. To draw any conclusions, it is necessary to conduct millions of samples. They allow you to get the most truthful results. Studies even on thousands of people give significant errors. For this reason, the findings of the Chinese may not confirm large samples.

Yet for now, the new strain of coronavirus remains a mystery to specialists. Epidemiologists urge that preventive and quarantine measures be followed equally strictly by all people, regardless of blood type. Many countries of the world, including Russia, have not yet reached the peak of incidence of KOVID-19. According to the forecasts of virologists, it will come in the second half of April. After this, the number of infected people will decline. However, epidemiologists do not rule out a second wave of incidence.
